The Department of Psychology within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Behavior Analysis (open area), beginning Fall 2027.
We seek a colleague committed to providing the highest quality training to the next generation of clinicians, researchers, and instructors in behavior analysis. The successful candidate will contribute primarily to our Bachelor's, Master's (ABAI-accredited), and Doctoral (ABAI-accredited) programs in Applied Behavior Analysis, joining a faculty whose work spans basic, translational, and applied areas.
Applicants from all areas of teaching and research interest are welcome. The department is particularly interested in scholarships that complement or expand its strengths, including work that bridges basic and translational research questions.
Responsibilities include maintaining an active research program; seeking external and internal research funding; supervising graduate research; mentoring doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in behavior analysis and psychology; and contributing to departmental, university, and professional service. Research-active faculty typically maintain a 3:2 teaching load, with courses aligned with the candidate's training and departmental needs.
No Required Certifications or Licensure
The UNCW Department of Psychology supports undergraduate study in psychology, including an interdisciplinary minor in Applied Behavior Analysis and Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities, and graduate education at the master's and doctoral levels. The department emphasizes close faculty-student collaboration, supervised research, applied learning, and service learning.
The Applied Behavior Analysis concentrations in the master's and doctoral programs are accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis International Accreditation Board. Graduate cohorts are intentionally small, and faculty typically mentor two to four graduate students at a time. The master's and doctoral programs require empirical thesis and dissertation research, allowing students to contribute directly to faculty research programs.
The Applied Behavior Analysis graduate program was recognized in 2017 by the Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis for its enduring contributions to the field, and its graduates routinely achieve a 100% first-time pass rate on the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst examination.
The department emphasizes applied learning experiences at the graduate and undergraduate levels and strongly values the contribution of basic and applied research to advance the field of psychology.
