Job summary

VCU College of Health Professions invites applications for an Assistant Professor within the Bachelor of Science in Health Services program. Advertising Summary: The Bachelor of Science in Health Services Program, housed in the College of Health Professions, is seeking a student-focused Assistant Professor to coordinate the student internship experience in partnership with the Assistant Program Director. Additionally, the Assistant Professor will have teaching, research, and service expectations.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Services program serves VCU undergraduate students seeking opportunities in healthcare. The mission is to provide an innovative pathway for students to explore their strengths and align them with a healthcare profession. The interdisciplinary program focuses on mentoring students, identifying their strengths and providing them with a safe environment to explore and grow. We also offer multiple minors that are available to all undergraduate VCU students that are interested in expanding their understanding of health care.

Duties & Responsibilities
Internship Management
  • The primary responsibility of this faculty member will be to work with the Assistant Program Director to build and implement high-quality internship experiences in alignment with the new vision of VCU Academic Affairs. This role will involve developing and maintaining partnerships with organizations across Virginia, expanding opportunities for students in various geographic and professional settings. The faculty member will also support both in-person and remote students throughout their internship experiences, ensuring meaningful engagement, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Be a key member in the development of the mentorship program and support our career development course.
  • Support students in finding internship placements and providing oversight of students throughout the semester which is done through our internship course which is offered to students in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. The coordinator will be responsible for initiating and maintaining relationships with potential internship sites (health centers, community-based organizations) for both the HSV major and two minors (research ecosystem and dental administration). The coordinator will also work with organizations the student identifies as potential internship sites.
  • The coordinator will work to ensure that all policies, procedures and documentation of internship sites are consistent with VCU Academic Affairs' vision for internships.
Teaching
  • The faculty member will have asynchronous and face-to-face teaching responsibilities in ALHP 435 Health Care Career Development and Planning in Allied Health Professions and a minimum of two other core courses within Bachelor of Science in Health Services curriculum: Health Services, Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Virginia Commonwealth University Academic Catalog
  • The faculty member will instruct courses in both the face-to-face program and asynchronous online program.
  • The faculty member will provide support for students in their courses through providing regular student hours and timely, high quality assignment feedback.
  • The faculty member will work with the Bachelor of Science in Health Services program in the development of new general education and restricted electives as needed.
Service
  • The faculty member will serve on their home departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field (e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.).
  • The faculty member will play an active role in instructor course pods, helping to lead the continued improvement of program courses.
Research
  • While this position’s primary purpose is instruction, there may also be opportunities to engage in collaborative research and scholarship.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or terminal degree in a health-related or educational field.
  • Minimum of two years managing or working in an internship type program with undergraduate students in health-related positions.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in a minimum of two of the linked teaching areas in an asynchronous online/hybrid/in-person environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching courses across multiple modalities (in-person, synchronous online, hybrid, hy-flex, etc).
  • Experience leading student organizations, workshops, or student meetings online.
  • Minimum of one year teaching in a LMS platform.

Salary Range:$90,000+ (commensurate with experience)
