Job description

The Department of Radiology at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University, AU, Georgia’s premier health sciences university, is recruiting a full-time Nuclear Medicine Physician. This is a great opportunity to join a department in the midst of expansion, including growing our Georgia Cancer Center and breaking ground on our 2nd hospital site in adjacent Columbia County (set to open in summer 2026). The candidate should be board certified in Nuclear Medicine/Radiology and preferably fellowship trained in Nuclear Medicine. Academic rank is commensurate with training and experience, with the potential for leadership in the section for candidates with leadership skills and appropriate levels of previous experience. Responsibilities for all faculty include a combination of patient care and teaching of medical students and residents in a busy tertiary and quaternary care center. Academic time is provided and new research projects are encouraged.
The nuclear division is equipped with two SPECT/CT gamma cameras, two SPECT gamma cameras (one cardiac-dedicated), cardiac treadmill stress, thyroid uptake probe, and PET/CT. The main campus, including Wellstar MCG Health and the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, is also equipped with 2 IR rooms, three CT scanners (256 and 128), three MRI scanners (3T and 1.5 T), 3D mammography, and adult and pediatric fluoroscopy, Ultrasound and routine X–ray equipment. Our free-standing imaging center, Wellstar MCG Health Imaging on Wheeler Road, is equipped with 2 MRI scanners (3T and 1.5T), 1 CT, 3D mammography, Ultrasound and digital x-ray. Additional NM SPECT gamma camera is planned for the new hospital site.
MCG is one of the largest medical schools in the USA and ranks in the top ten public medical schools in basic science grant revenue per faculty member. MCG and its teaching hospitals provide postgraduate education to nearly 500 residents in 44 different programs. Augusta University is a public research university and part of the University System of Georgia and has satellite medical campuses in Savannah, Albany, Rome, and Athens (note: there are no responsibilities for this faculty position at these sites). The large medical campus offers excellent core facilities including cell and small animal imaging as well as numerous resources to help support your investigations.
