Position Summary

Position Description

The University of South Carolina Floyd School of Medicine is looking for an Assistant Professor, Tenure track to join the Cell, Biology and Anatomy department.

The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the University of South Carolina Floyd School of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Our department has a dynamic, collaborative faculty with research expertise in cardiovascular development and disease. Information on individual faculty research interests is available at our website: Cell, Biology and Anatomy. Ideal candidates will have scientific interests that synergize with current department research activities while broadening our existing strengths and bringing new scientific approaches to the department.

South Carolina is an NIH IDeA state which could provide applicants the opportunity to participate in multi-investigator/institutional grants at USC such as NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBREs), the Center for Clinical and Translational Research (an NIH CTR -D), and the SC IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (SC INBRE ) programs. In addition to our commitment to cutting edge research, the department contributes significantly to the educational mission of the School of Medicine by teaching in both the medical and graduate Biomedical Sciences programs.

Skills/knowledge/abilities:
  • Scientific writing experience evidenced by publications is required;
  • Ability to give oral scientific presentations is expected;
  • Participation in educating medical and graduate students

Applicants are expected to have teaching interests, and potentially experience, that would allow integration into departmental educational responsibilities which include courses in human anatomy, histology, cell biology, biochemistry, and cardiovascular sciences.

Required Education and Experience

Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. with postdoctoral experience. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have appropriate postdoctoral experience and clear potential to establish an extramurally funded research program in cardiovascular development or disease related areas.
