Job description

The Department of Geological Sciences at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2027.

We seek an Engineering Geologist or Applied Geoscientist, with strong preference given to candidates with industry or government experience in applied geosciences, who can mentor our students in pursuing professional licensure. We welcome candidates with experience in geotechnical analysis; site investigation; hazard assessment; civil, mining and environmental projects; shallow imaging for engineering applications; and/or remote sensing.

The candidate will be expected to teach Engineering Geology; a course in their area of expertise such as site investigation or advanced field geology; general education courses such as environmental geology; and other courses as needed. The candidate will also be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research. We welcome applicants whose work complements our existing strengths, contributes new dimensions to the department’s research and teaching profile, and leverages existing departmental expertise and instrumentation. Potential areas of specialization include engineering geology, applied or near-surface geophysics, soils, environmental geology, or geologic hazards. CSUSB’s Geological Sciences Department offers B.A., B.S., and M.S. degrees, has six full-time faculty members with a variety of research interests, and is located in one of the most geologically rich and diverse regions of North America.
