Position: Assistant Professor of EarthScience

Salary Range: The Assistant Professor (AcademicYear) classification salary is $6,221 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring rangeis $7,330 to $8,000/per month. Salary offered is commensurate withqualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Geoscience or related field at time of application orofficial notification of completion of the doctoral degree byAugust 1, 2027.
• Record of research in the broadly defined fields of EarthMaterials, Mineralogy, Petrology, Economic Geology or in any othergeoscience discipline that substantially employs Earth Materialsmethods in their research
• Ability to teach undergraduate courses in Earth Materials,Mineralogy, Petrology, as well as other Earth Science courses atboth the undergraduate and graduate level
• Demonstrated commitment to be an effective teacher atundergraduate and graduate levels
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diversestudent population

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in or potential to teach a breadth of undergraduateand graduate-level courses to a diverse student body
• Commitment to learning and incorporating pedagogical bestpractices to create equitable courses that promote studentlearning
• A record of academic publication and research activitycommensurate with experience in the applicant's field ofexpertise
• Demonstrated success or history of effort to obtain funding forresearch

Duties

• Teach introductory and expertise-related subjects atundergraduate and graduate (M.S. degree) levels, as needed by thedepartment, including Mineralogy, Petrology, and/or EarthMaterials. (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid,online, and/or any combination thereof.)
• Mentor undergraduate and Masters-level graduate students inresearch
• Engage and maintain an active research program involvingstudents and leading to peer-reviewed publications and professionalpresentations
• Actively pursue external support for research and studentfunding through grants and contracts
• Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development andprogram assessment

About Our Department

The Department of EarthScience offers two undergraduate degrees (Geology and EarthSystems), and a Master's degree in Geology. We have approximately50 undergraduate majors and 35 graduate students. The departmentemphasizes hands-on practical experience in the field and lab andhas excellent instrumentation and equipment to facilitate researchand teaching. We are located in a geologically and environmentallydiverse area that allows quick access for both research and classfield activities.
