The Department of Psychology consists of 31 faculty members, the staff of the advising center, the staff of the Psychoeducational Clinic, and the four members of our office staff, as well as over 750 undergraduate majors and 120 graduate students pursuing their doctoral degrees. The faculty are outstanding scholars, many of whom have won awards for teaching and research and/or are fellows in the major professional societies in Psychology. Faculty have received research grants and training grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes for Health, the National Institute on Aging, the Army Research Laboratory, the Army Research Institute, the Department of Education, and numerous companies.

Essential Job Duties

The Department of Psychology is seeking an Assistant Professor to advance research, teaching, and service in applied social psychology. This position requires the establishment of an independent research program with demonstrated or potential for external funding, dissemination of scholarship through scholarly outlets, teaching and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, and service to the Applied Social Psychology program area, department, college, university, and broader field.

As an Assistant Professor, you will conduct a productive program of research that contributes meaningful scholarship to the discipline and strengthens the department’s research profile. You will teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, helping them develop as scholars and professionals, while contributing your expertise to the continued growth of the program and the broader discipline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program.
  • Disseminate research through scholarly publications, presentations, and other professional outlets.
  • Teach courses that support undergraduate and graduate education in psychology.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their academics, research, and professional development.

Other Responsibilities

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience

PhD in psychology or relevant discipline by August 16, 2027.

  • Record of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed research and other scholarly publications.
  • Commitment to meaningful service that contributes to an academic program, department, university, or professional field.
  • Teaching proficiency at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with a focus on supporting students with varied academic and professional goals.
  • Demonstrated mentorship of doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, or other emerging scholars.

  • Success or promise in securing external research funding, including competitive federal, foundation, or other sponsored funding.
  • Alignment with the core values of our applied social psychology program: conducting high-quality research, considering the multilevel social and cultural contexts in which individuals are embedded, practical application of psychological theory to real-world challenges, and leveraging the value of interdisciplinary collaboration.
