Job summary

Albertsons Companies is seeking an Assistant Produce Manager to support daily department operations in our Produce area. You will drive sales, deliver outstanding service, and maintain freshness, food safety, and presentation standards while guiding associates.

You will assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance coaching, participate in inventory and promotional activities, and help achieve departmental goals in a fast-paced retail environment.

Position Summary

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily department operations, driving sales, delivering exceptional customer service, and maintaining high standards for product quality, freshness, food safety, and presentation. This role assists with associate development, inventory management, merchandising, and operational execution while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
Department Operations
  • Assist in managing daily produce department operations.
  • Ensure products are properly stocked, rotated, displayed, and maintained to company standards.
  • Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and merchandising presentation.
  • Support execution of promotional programs, seasonal displays, and sales initiatives.
  • Monitor department conditions to ensure operational readiness throughout business hours.
Customer Service
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and foster a customer-focused environment.
  • Assist customers with product selection and provide information regarding product use, storage, and preparation.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Promote department products through product knowledge and suggestive selling techniques.
Leadership & Associate Development
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to produce associates.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  • Support associate development and succession planning efforts.
Inventory & Financial Performance
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering, and product replenishment.
  • Monitor shrink, waste, and inventory levels to maximize profitability.
  • Support labor management and department expense control initiatives.
  • Help achieve department sales, margin, and profitability goals.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Maintain proper product handling, storage, and rotation procedures.
  • Follow company safety programs and operational policies.
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and corrective action plans as needed.
Merchandising & Product Quality
  • Maintain attractive produce displays that drive sales and enhance the shopping experience.
  • Monitor product freshness, quality, and shelf life.
  • Ensure promotional and seasonal items are properly displayed.
  • Support product replenishment and display planning to meet customer demand while minimizing spoilage.
