ReNEW Schools in Indianapolis seeks an Elementary Assistant Principal to partner with the Building Principal in leading daily school operations, supervising staff, and coordinating programs to ensure instructional excellence and a safe learning environment.

You will help implement the MSD Decatur Township curriculum, monitor compliance with state and federal guidelines, support a positive school culture, and contribute to the school improvement plan and professional learning for staff.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field.
  • Valid Indiana Administrative License.
  • Five (5) or more years of teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal in the overall administration and daily operation of the school.
  • Serve as Acting Principal in the absence of the Building Principal.
  • Interpret and enforce school and MSD Decatur Township policies and regulations.
  • Maintain a variety of records and files and prepare periodic and special reports as required.
  • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conduct inventories; maintain records and verify receipts.
  • Assist in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other school support services.
  • Maintain and model high standards of professionalism.
  • Assist the Principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program aligned with state and federal guidelines and School Board policies.
  • Support implementation of the Board-approved MSD Decatur Township curriculum.
  • Assist in the collaborative development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the school improvement plan.
  • Assist in planning and implementing professional learning and growth opportunities for teachers and staff.
  • Explain and interpret Decatur Township curriculum, instructional goals, and objectives to teachers, parents, and community members.
  • Assist in supervising the instructional program through learning walks, classroom observations, documentation, and follow-up conferences.
  • Support teachers in evaluating instructional methods and materials and developing effective learning plans and classroom management strategies.
  • Supervise teachers as assigned by the Principal.
  • Assist in implementing the Decatur Township Culture Guide and supporting a positive school climate.
  • Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and addressing special cases as needed.
  • Meet and confer with students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding academic and behavioral concerns.
  • Demonstrate adaptive leadership and management abilities
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting student attendance.
  • Identify student needs and coordinate support with school specialists and intervention teams.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local mandates, including testing programs and special education requirements.
  • Help conduct safety inspections and coordinate safety drill practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation required by local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Collaborate effectively with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Building Principal

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time (210 days)

The Elementary Assistant Principal supports the Building Principal in providing leadership, coordination, supervision, and management of the school program and operations. This position assists in fostering a positive school culture, supporting instructional excellence, maintaining a safe learning environment, and ensuring that school programs align with the mission, philosophy, policies, and goals of the MSD of Decatur Township and applicable state and federal guidelines.
