Ascend Schools seeks an Assistant Principal of Student Services to ensure academic, emotional, and physical supports for students needing extra help within core programs. The role collaborates with instructional leaders to meet diverse student needs.

Responsibilities include leading special education, 504 plans, ENL, and related services, coaching teachers, and managing IEPs with DOE alignment. A passion for urban education and closing gaps is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum three years teaching experience with a track record of elevating student achievement.
• At least one year leading, managing, and coaching a team of adults.
• Experience teaching in underserved areas preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Passion for urban education and closing the achievement gap.

Responsabilités

• Ensure the school complies with special education regulations and coordinate staff development in special education, 504s, tiered support and ENL.
• Observe, coach, and supervise ELL teachers, SETSS and interventionists to ensure engaging, rigorous instruction.
• Develop and lead academic intervention plans for the school.
• Serve as primary contact with the NYCDOE Office of Special Education and manage relationships.
• Implement IEPs and manage direct services provided by related service providers.
• Ensure general education teachers implement IEP/504 accommodations.
• Lead data-driven weekly meetings to monitor at-risk tiered support.
• Create, implement, and review 504 plans.
• Differentiate small group instruction for students with special needs.
• Prepare student IEPs in consultation with staff and families.
• Use assessment data to drive instruction and mastery of standards.
• Build strong relationships with students and families.
• Participate in grade-level meetings and professional development, including summer institute.
