Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools in the United States seeks an instructional leader to assist the principal in guiding instructional programs, staff development, and day-to-day school operations. This role supports administration of instructional and operational programs and directs a staff of professional and support instructional personnel.

Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodologies of school administration; instructional program planning; child growth and development; total school operation and group dynamics; and related state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations; plan, organize, and administer a public school; direct and evaluate a diversified professional staff.
  • Demonstrated abilities in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, long-range planning and forecasting; effective communication orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the principal in administering and evaluating the instructional programs of the school.
  • Provide leadership in initiating in-service programs and organizational improvements; serve as an assistant to the principal.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the school’s teachers and support staff; coordinate curriculum development with Instructional Services, administrators, specialists, and teachers.
  • Communicate division-wide policy, procedures, and guidelines to school staff; interpret School Board policy to parents and the public.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state statutes, policies, and guidelines related to public schools (including programs for the academically talented and special education).
  • Assist the principal in directing extra-curricular programs (athletic, performing arts, and academic activities) and foster effective communications through meetings, committees, and individual conferences.
  • Communicate with parents via school programs, letters, telephone calls, and personal contact.
  • Serve as an instructional leader; review and analyze data to lead the school’s efforts toward high academic performance for all students.
  • Assist in determining staffing needs with senior district leadership and the Human Resources Department; participate in recruitment, selection, and assignment of school staff.
  • Represent the school at meetings and public forums; gather citizen and parental input.
  • Assist in completing the school master schedule and planning for faculty professional development.
  • Provide oversight in the summer for custodial and maintenance work pace and completion; demonstrate commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance preparation for principalship; perform other duties as required.

Additional Job Requirements
  • Must hold a valid Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
  • Three to five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience.
  • Successful completion of background investigations/tests: FBI Criminal History Investigation; State Police Criminal History Investigation; CPS Investigation; Tuberculosis Screening/Test.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $86,583.02 – $139,525.38. Work schedule: 8 hours per day, 260 days per year. Benefits offered; eligibility varies by full-time status. Equal employment opportunities and reasonable accommodations are provided as required by law.

Work Environment and Conditions

Work is performed in a school setting, with regular contact with students, staff, parents, and the community. Occasional travel for meetings and state activities; may require outdoor work and inclement weather considerations.
