Winthrop Harbor School District #1 is hiring for a Full-Time Assistant Principal at Westfield Elementary (start date 8/4/2025)
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Principal or General Administrative Endorsement.
This position is 10 months (work 1 day after teacher's last day and return 2 weeks prior to teacher's 1st day). Does not work Holidays, Winter Break and Spring Break.
The individual employed for this position will work under the supervision of the Principal and / or Principal Designee.
The Elementary Assistant Principal plays a vital role in promoting a positive school culture, supporting student success, and ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment. This position focuses on implementing effective strategies for behavior management, and attendance to foster a conducive atmosphere for academic growth and personal development.
Responsibilities:
Behavior Management:
Develop and enforce school-wide behavior management policies and procedures in collaboration with the principal and staff.
Support teachers in implementing effective behavior management strategies in their classrooms.
Monitor and analyze behavior data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
Coordinate and implement appropriate interventions and supports for students displaying challenging behaviors.
Attendance:
Develop and implement strategies to improve student attendance rates.
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other stakeholders to identify and address barriers to attendance.
Monitor and analyze attendance data to identify patterns and trends, and develop targeted interventions as necessary.
Work closely with families and community agencies to support student attendance and address underlying issues.
Discipline and Conflict Resolution:
Assist the principal in administering disciplinary procedures and implementing the school's code of conduct.
Collaborate with teachers, staff, students, and families to address disciplinary issues and resolve conflicts.
Provide guidance and support to teachers in handling discipline-related matters effectively.
Foster a restorative justice approach to discipline and conflict resolution when appropriate.
Student Support and Guidance:
Support the social-emotional development of students by promoting a positive and inclusive school climate.
Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and other support staff to provide intervention and support for students with behavioral or attendance challenges.
Facilitate and participate in individual and group meetings with students to address behavior, attendance, and social-emotional needs.
Administrative Duties:
Assist the principal in managing daily school operations, including scheduling, supervision, and student activities.
Collaborate with the administrative team to develop and implement, and train staff on school-wide initiatives and programs.
Participate in meetings, committees, and professional development activities to stay updated on best practices in behavior management, and attendance.
