Job Description

The Assistant Principal serves as a critical instructional and cultural leader who works in partnership with the Principal, staff, families and community partners to foster a safe, inclusive and engaging learning community. The Assistant Principal is essential to advancing Lyndon Town School’s commitment to restorative practices, social and emotional learning and continuous professional growth, while supporting high-quality instruction and equitable outcomes for all students. The successful candidate will model curiosity, reflection, empathy and personal growth and will adeptly connect shared values with concrete, daily tasks and future planning. A commitment to listening and learning are critical to the success of this role as tools to guide cultural change and create conditions for trust and psychological safety. Through intentional relationship-building, collaborative learning, and equity-focused leadership, this position will help transform systems and practices to ensure all students, staff and families experience belonging, equity and opportunity.

The Assistant Principal’s primary job responsibilities will focus on supporting the development of social, emotional and academic layers of support, and implementing policies and procedures including attendance and discipline, school safety, and shared supervision and evaluation of staff. The Assistant Principal will support the Principal in developing and planning high quality professional development, instructional leadership, establishing a School Leadership Team and considering mechanisms to increase sense of belonging and community.

The Assistant Principal will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of elementary/middle school education, curriculum, instruction, positive behavior supports and assessment, must have the ability to multitask and meet deadlines, must have the ability to move about the school building on a regular basis, ability to sit, stand, and walk for required periods of time, ability to attend scheduled meetings, will have a reliable means of transportation, as well as the ability to work in a school environment with elementary/middle school aged students which includes periods of noise and multiple distractions. The assistant principal must be flexible and adaptable to additional duties as the Principal deems necessary. The salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000.

Lyndon Town School is part of the Kingdom East School District, located in the heart of a vibrant community in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. We operate seven preK-8th grade schools ranging from 60 to 500 students. Our high school students have “choice” and may opt to attend one of the traditional independent schools — Lyndon Institute or St. Johnsbury Academy — or another high school of their choosing.

We are located about 3 hours from Montreal, Boston and Portland, ME. Our region is known for breathtaking views and access to great skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing and other outdoor opportunities. We are close to the White Mountains and the Green Mountains. Both Littleton, NH and St. Johnsbury, VT have numerous fine and performing arts venues.
