Southern Champion Tray in Chattanooga, TN is hiring a Press Feeder/Second Press Operator to safely set up and operate the press, ensuring quality product at target speeds. • Stages stock and prepares materials for next job at the feeder.
• Loads feeder; checks sheets for defects; ensures proper setup and operation.
• Assists in washing up press, cleaning trays, and disposing of waste.
• Maintains supplies at the press and reports maintenance issues to operators.
• Ability to perform the Second Press operator’s duties in absence of the operator.
• Maintains a clean work environment per Food Safety and 5S standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Must safely set up and operate the machine to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:

• Reviews job ticket instructions to determine printing specifications, machine set up procedures, and supplies needed
• Follows all instructions issued on the job ticket advising the supervisor of any incorrect or non-recorded information necessary for proper set up and operation
• Stages correct stock and make ready materials for the next scheduled job at the feeder prior to the completion of the job in progress
• Loads feeder and checks sheets for all defects
• Responsible for the setup and operation of the feeder, assists press operators in the setup of the press
• Assist in the washing up of press, cleaning wash up trays, and properly disposing of waste materials as needed
• Assist press operators in all maintenance issues as required, reports any suspected problems to press operators
• Ability to perform the Second Press operator’s position in their absence
• Maintains a sufficient amount of supplies at the press to produce each job and assures sufficient quantities are available at shift change
• Must possess professional appearance and mannerisms with the ability to positively interact and represent the company to customers during press checks
• Communicates with other team members
• Wears appropriate PPE for the task and the area.
• Welcomes updates and improvements to processes and follows new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation
• Performs work in a manner that keeps down time to a minimum
• Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems
• Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines. Use situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions
• May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by assisting with set-up or performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor
• Occasionally the Assistant Press Operator will be asked to perform a different job, or be temporarily placed in a different department based on production needs

AUTHORITY:In the absence of the Second Press Operator, the Press Feeder must have the ability to lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the printing operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job, the Team member is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. The Team member frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Operator frequently must lift/move 25 to 50 pounds. Team member must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during his/her shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
