Job summary

Congregation Har Shalom is seeking a caring assistant teacher for the Sherman Early Childhood Center in Potomac, MD. The role runs Monday–Friday, 8:15 am–5:15 pm, inside a nurturing Jewish preschool environment with an emergent curriculum.

The ideal candidate supports development across physical, emotional, social, and inclusive needs, while collaborating with a strong teaching team and adhering to childcare guidelines.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience working with ages 2–5.
• Infant/toddler certification (45 hours) required.
• Creative, team player, excellent communicator, nurturing, dedicated, and flexible.
• Experience differentiating instruction for all learners.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the teaching team in planning, setting up, and implementing learning opportunities using a child-centered emergent curriculum.
• Follow all school, synagogue, and Maryland Office of Childcare requirements.
• Support children’s physical, emotional and social-emotional development, including special needs.
• Ensure the safety of all children with proper supervision and care.
• Support the school’s educational philosophy, Jewish content, and family experience.
• Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with the teaching team and leadership.
• Document student progress and health needs; participate in team meetings and family programming.
• Physical ability to care for children including lifting, carrying, and running.

The Sherman Early Childhood Center is a full-time Jewish preschool at Congregation Har Shalom in Potomac, MD. We are committed to offering a safe and nurturing environment where learning happens through play, collaboration, and an integrated emergent curriculum.

We are looking for a caring, nurturing, inspiring, and enthusiastic assistant teacher who can be a contributing professional team member. This position will work Monday - Friday, 8:15 am - 5:15 pm.

Requirements

• Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with the teaching team and leadership regarding the students, families, and the classroom.
• Support the classroom team in documentation of student progress, and incidents and be familiar with all student needs and health issues.
• Participate in all team meetings and family programming assigned, beyond school hours.
• Physical ability to care and insure the safety of all children including lifting, carrying, and running.
