ABOUT US:

Special Kids Special Families (SKSF) is a Colorado 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located in Colorado Springs founded in 1998 to provide respite and specialized care for children and adults with disabilities and special needs. Various programs offer community support services to families and are designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities throughout their life span.

SIGN-ON BONUS: $1000

SCOPE:

The Preschool Assistant Teacher at Zach’s Place supports the Preschool Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children with diverse needs. This role includes assisting with age-appropriate activities, promoting social and cognitive development, ensuring the well-being of each child, and collaborating with families and staff to support individual learning goals. This position is under the supervision of the Program Director and Center Managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist the Preschool Teacher in providing hands-on care and support for children, including those with medical needs.
  • Support children’s growth by helping implement individualized goals and treatment plans.
  • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment by adhering to Zach’s Place and state policies, including emergency procedures and safety protocols.
  • Help maintain accurate documentation, such as medication logs and incident reports, and communicate classroom needs to leadership.
  • Assist in implementing positive behavior support strategies to promote progress and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to maintain high standards for safety, cleanliness, and program excellence.
  • Participate in educational and recreational activities that enhance the development of children.
  • Be adaptable and assist in various classroom and program activities to ensure a positive experience for all children.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with children, particularly in a preschool environment or with neurodivergent individuals, is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and transfer children up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work independently and support community-based activities under the guidance of the Preschool Teacher.
  • Availability to work some weekends or flexible hours as needed.
  • Previous experience in roles such as Teacher’s Aide, Childcare Worker, or Paraprofessional is a plus.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions certification required within 30 days of hire (training provided by SKSF).
  • Valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance required.

SALARY:

$19/HR, DOE; full-time – non-exempt position
