Job description

Forest River, Inc., the Nation’s largest manufacturer of Recreational Vehicles, Cargo Trailers, Transit Buses, and Boats, has an immediate opening.

Overview: The Assistant Plant Manager will oversee Collins’ production operations, ensuring manufacturing processes remain smooth and efficient. This role requires monitoring employees, organizing workflow, and possessing skills in complex operations to understand the multifaceted manufacturing process. The goal is to optimize daily activities while minimizing costs. Manufacturing at Collins Bus includes general assembly, paint, welding, and fabrication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Align and champion Collins’ core values, including safety, quality, and delivery.
  • Set and communicate daily, weekly, and monthly goals to employees.
  • Schedule labor and assign employees based on skill sets to ensure smooth operations.
  • Understand organizational workflow, delegate responsibilities, and establish deadlines.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and discipline employees as necessary.
  • Complete Supervisor Standard Work daily and seek continuous improvement within our OpEx culture.
  • Prioritize safety in equipment use and oversee maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor production output for compliance with specifications.
  • Generate and submit performance and progress reports.
  • Identify issues in efficiency and productivity, and suggest improvements.
  • Onboard new employees, including safety training and procedure instruction.
  • Enforce safety guidelines and company standards.
  • Conduct 90-day and annual reviews for department employees.
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance processes.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical or engineering degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of manufacturing experience with leadership responsibilities.
  • Proficient with pneumatic and power tools; knowledgeable about safe operation.
  • Effective communication skills across all personnel levels.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Leadership ability to achieve company goals.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Calmness in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, measurements, and instructions in English.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards; hazardous materials handling training required annually.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Engineering/Manufacturing/Business Administration preferred.
  • Experience in specialty vehicle manufacturing and managing technical personnel is highly desirable.

Physical Demands: Regular standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 40 lbs, and working with arms above head. Specific vision abilities required. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.

Work Environment: 100% production floor environment.

Personal Protective Equipment: Safety glasses, earplugs, safety shoes recommended and/or required.
