Our client is Manufacturer of Quality Architectural Woodwork in Beecher and Milwaukee. They are seeking an Assistant Plant Manager to join their growing team. This is a full-time position -hours are 6 am -4:30 pm. Monday – Friday with additional overtime as needed.
Job Overview:
The Assistant Plant Manager will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of a woodworking manufacturing facility. The individual in this position will be responsible for overseeing production processes, managing teams, ensuring safety compliance, maintaining equipment, and assisting the Plant Manager with the strategic operations of the plant. The role requires a proactive and hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses strong problem-solving skills, and has a solid understanding of woodworking manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Management:
· Assist in overseeing the manufacturing process scheduling, ensuring all operations run smoothly, efficiently, and according to schedule.
· Coordinate with department leads to allocate resources effectively and meet production targets.
· Monitor production lines for quality control, minimizing defects and downtime.
· Analyze production data and adjust processes to improve efficiency and output.
· Supervise and motivate plant workers to ensure high performance and morale.
· Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
· Provide hands- on training and development opportunities to team members.
· Ensure workforce safety, adherence to company policies, and address employee concerns as they arise.
Safety & Compliance:
· Enforce and monitor safety standards to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
· Assist in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
· Ensure all plant operations comply with quality standards, environmental regulations, and other industry best practices.
Inventory & Equipment Management:
· Oversee inventory control processes to ensure adequate supply levels of raw materials, parts, and tools.
· Ensure proper maintenance of woodworking machinery, equipment, and tools.
· Work with maintenance teams to schedule regular inspections, repairs, and upgrades as needed to minimize downtime.
Quality Control:
· Ensure that the final products meet or exceed the required quality standards and customer specifications.
· Resolve quality-related issues by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Reporting & Administration:
· Assist in preparing reports for senior management on production performance, quality, safety, and other key metrics.
· Support budget planning, cost control, and material waste reduction initiatives.
· Help the Plant Manager in managing the daily operational and strategic planning activities.
· Contribute ideas and strategies for process improvements to enhance productivity, product quality, and efficiency.
· Implement lean manufacturing principles and other best practices to optimize plant performance.
Qualifications:
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
Experience:
· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a woodworking or manufacturing environment.
· Strong understanding of woodworking processes, machinery, and techniques.
· Experience with production planning, scheduling, and team management.
· Strong leadership and people management skills.
· Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with manufacturing software (ERP, etc.).
· Solid understanding of safety standards, quality control procedures, and regulatory compliance.
· Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate weights (up to 50 pounds).
· Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to noise, dust, and other physical demands typical of a woodworking facility.
