Job DescriptionJob Description

The Assistant Plant Manager will be responsible for directing and coordinating plant operations, responsible for product quality control and ensuring production process meet standards. The purpose of this role is to plan, assisting the Plant Manager in planning, directing, and coordinating all production activities within the plant. Ensuring production processes adhere to established quality standards and meet production deadlines. Additional responsibility for developing processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality, and productivity.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The position reports directly to the Director of Plant Manager and provides supervision to Production Supervisors, Leads, Maintenance, Sanitation, and oversight of all production employees. Works with the Quality Team on all food safety protocols, food safety, and compliance issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job, an individual must be able to perform and coordinate the workflow for the following:

  • Stimulate maximum efficiency and productivity of both supervisors and production workers

  • Oversee production operations areas, including production plant and maintenance. Work with the leadership

    team on projects, activities, and issues that address production methods and personnel to ensure strategic

    priorities are successfully addressed. Ensure proper execution of all Production SOPs

  • Report any food safety and quality issues/problems to personnel with authority to initiate action

  • Confers with Plant Manager in establishment of shift standards and working schedules for all departments

    connected with production

  • Resolves production-related problems. Oversees workplace safety and health regulations working closely with

    the Safety team. The assistant manufacturing manager looks at ways to improve production efficiency.

  • Manages production functions for plant, which includes reviewing production orders and/or schedules to ensure

    that production requirements are optimal, and are completed according to established production schedules

  • Monitor and oversee the daily/routine activities for the Production workforce on the floor. Lead activities and programs to prevent accidents and injuries, equipment and facility damage, and disasters

  • Lead problem-solving and troubleshooting activities for Processing

  • Lead the continuous process improvement initiatives. Be alert cost-effective, and efficient ways of running the

    processing operation

  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers’ expectations

  • Increase production, assets capacity, and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current

    quality standards

  • Be responsible for production output, product quality, and on-time shipping

  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results

  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic, planning, and resource

    allocation

  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions

  • Build a trusting relationship with workforce; manage and develop plant staff

  • Collect and analyze data to find redundancy, waste, and overtime issues

  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets

  • Address employees’ issues or concerns

  • Stay current with the latest production management best practices and concepts

  • Must adhere to safety procedures and operations

  • Must be able to troubleshoot production issues and write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Must be able to keep up with production schedule

  • Develop work plans for emergency repair of critical assets

  • Collaborate effectively with Human Resources to ensure recruiting and staffing needs are met. Oversee job

    changes and promotions for internal candidates

  • Perform quality checks or equipment

  • Actively participate and implement the root cause assessment during daily incident report investigations,

    deviations of procedure, customer complaints, or any other noncompliance to finished goods, specification of

    raw material, or others.

  • Deep knowledge of industry and processes

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree (B.S./B. A.) from a four-year College or University; or five to seven years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education

  • Ability and experience in successfully supervising and directing people and their work. Lead by example, jumping in when necessary to keep the operation moving. Ability to motivate and lead employees

  • Ability and willingness to communicate routine and urgent processing issues and needs to Leadership. Escalate issues as appropriate and in a timely fashion to ensure information is shared effectively

  • Ability to work successfully with all levels of employees and internal groups/teams, while providing leadership and coaching as appropriate and necessary. Ability to work with outside vendors and suppliers

  • Collaborative: ability to influence people in all roles, and levels in the organization

  • Strong leadership, management, operational and analytical skills

  • Ability to think and act strategically with the capacity for growth in strategic thinking ability

  • Strong problem-solving skills, proven project management and continuous improvement experience, and

    coordination of multiple projects simultaneously

  • Open and direct communicator; excellent verbal and written communication skills

    SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees.

Dexterity in eye/hand coordination, feet (foot pedals) manual (picking, pinching, holding, grasping), and wrist motion (repetitive flexion/rotation). Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
