Job summary

Airgas, a leading U.S. supplier of industrial gases and related products, seeks an Assistant Plant Manager in Longview, TX to oversee Fill Plant operations and supervise distribution personnel.

You will ensure safety, quality and on-time delivery, coordinate with other departments, maintain records, and drive continuous improvement through hands-on leadership and KPI monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent with at least 3 years related experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees, managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization; visa sponsorship not offered.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers in plant distribution and drives to ensure timely product distribution.
  • Maintains DOT inspection reports and manifests; verifies tickets.
  • Coordinates with other department supervisors to manage flow of materials.
  • Monitors production records and time usage; ensures safety compliance.
  • Directs and trains employees; enforces policies and safety.
  • Achieves optimum efficiency and production economics.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 5:30 am to 2:30 pm with extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in transporting products by use of industrial trucks and assists with managing Fill Plant operations to ensure timely distribution of product to the branches in the Plant Manager's absence.
  • Maintains all required D.O.T. inspection reports and manifests, verifies and releases tickets, and any additional documentation needed in the supervision of plant drivers and plant distribution personnel.
  • Confers with supervisors of other departments and/or branches to coordinate flow of materials or products.
  • Verifies and/or prepares records such as routing slips, material requisitions, and job orders.
  • Studies delivery schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Interprets company policies to distribution personnel and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets job orders to distribution personnel and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of plant distribution.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists distribution personnel in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate distribution personnel to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Provide the necessary training and equipment to all employees to safely, properly and efficiently perform their jobs.
  • Manage the safety and health of their employees by complying with all internal policies and procedures and applicable government regulations.
  • Promote a collective and positive safety attitude by providing leadership by example.
  • Assists with directing and coordinating plant activities to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize production.
  • Assists in directing plant policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the development of plant goals and may work through subordinate employees to achieve same.
  • Follows and maintains all FDA, OSHA, EPA, DOT requirements and regulations.
  • Directly supervises employees and subordinate supervisors in assigned production facility.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Associate's degree (A.A.or A.S.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.
