Job summary

City of Sandpoint is seeking an entry-level Associate Planner to assist with planning and zoning initiatives, review submissions, and support GIS mapping activities. The role operates under the Deputy Community Planning and Development Director with some independent judgment and initiative.

Under supervision, you will engage with the public, help prepare staff reports, and maintain planning databases and maps. This is a great entry path into municipal planning and development.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in urban/regional planning or environmental planning.
• One year of professional planning experience.
• Working knowledge of GIS software.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and feasibility studies; prepares reports; updates ordinances and coordinates with other divisions.
• Prepare and update land use and planning maps; uses GIS to create data/map layers.
• Meet with the public to discuss planning issues and respond to inquiries; communicate policy and decisions.
• Review residential permits and subdivision applications for code compliance; assist builders and developers.
• Maintain department databases for project management and reporting.
