Job description

Assistant Physicist–Radiation Oncology (Upland, Full-Time, Exempt status)

The Assistant Physicist supports the Radiation Oncology department by performing duties related to dosimetry, equipment calibration, treatment planning, radiation protection, and safety. Under the direction of a qualified medical physicist, this role ensures the accurate and safe delivery of radiation therapy in accordance with established protocols and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
  • Work under supervision of a licensed medical physicist, calculating treatment time and preparing dosimetric information including retrieving previous treatment records, contouring, computer‑assisted treatment planning, computation of dose to points of interest, in‑vivo dosimetry, design of beam‑shaping blocks and tissue compensators, documentation, and treatment portal design using Phanta.
  • Assist in a Quality Assurance Program for Clinical Radiation Dosimetry: review proper dose delivery and cumulative dose; compare computed dose with delivered dose using diodes or TLDs; perform tests to check operation of therapy machines; recalibrate therapy machines.
  • Participate in Brachytherapy treatment planning and QA programs.
  • Participate in patient‑specific phantom QA, calibration of therapy units and other assigned tasks.

Pay Range

$93,392/yr - $119,080/yr - $144,747.20/yr ($44.90/hr - $57.25/hr - $69.59/hr)
