Job Overview

The Assistant Fitness Manager (AFM) is the assistant business leader of the department. He/she creates and supports team culture to drive operational excellence and deliver a superior member experience.

AFM’s are goal oriented, results driven, eager to interact with members, and excited to develop and manage a team of high performing talent. Other duties not listed here may be assigned as necessary to ensure the proper operations of the department.

Business Leader

Business management of the trainers including bi-monthly meetings, monthly projections, PT calendar management, lead and client communication, and oversight of trainers delivering training services.

Conduct timely and relevant business management meetings to support trainer development.

Accountability of team’s business deliverables by setting targets, following up, providing feedback and support for progress.

Collaborate with Membership Team for PT Sales at POS.

Assume Manager on Duty responsibilities in the absence of the GM/AGM.

Operational Management

PT business and sales coaching.

Utilize Datatrak Calendar to create floor schedule and manage the team’s ability to deliver service on the floor.

Generate PT Sales leads, schedule lead generation activities, and support trainer development to build a successful business.

Set goals in support MMCO and EOMCO and execute the proper follow up post event.

Execute all operational SOPs including administrative duties associated with client outreach and staff accountabilities.

Support trainers through financial planning as it relates to the compensation plan.

KPI Management

Achieve monthly and annual department financial goals.

Proactively address business trends in CKO conversions, client attrition and client training frequency.

Performance management of all trainers.

Client Relationship Management

Communication with potential leads and all clients

Client coverage and sharing across all tiers

Management of all client pipelines, inclusive of new members

Clearly outline the pipeline responsibilities in partnership with the AFM on staff (where applicable), and with the oversight of PT senior leadership.

Scheduling of new member CKO's

Leader of Team Culture

Collaborate with all departments of the club to achieve interdepartmental synergy.

Manage optimal staffing targets to meet the needs of the business, which includes the interview and hiring process.

Behavior and performance management of trainers in order to maintain a high-quality team to uphold the brand standards and expectations of their role.

Establish and maintain friendliness and service standards for trainers in their interactions with members and club staff.

Identify, collaborate, and align on key talent to advance trainer careers.

What You'll Do

Deliver Exceptional Personal Training Experiences

  • Provide high-quality personal training sessions and fitness coaching to clients.
  • Create customized fitness and nutrition programs tailored to individual goals.

  • Track client progress and provide ongoing accountability, motivation, and support.
  • Build strong relationships that drive client satisfaction and retention.
Drive New Client Acquisition
  • Conduct fitness consultations and promote personal training services.
  • Participate directly in the sales process, converting prospects into active training clients.
  • Coach and support personal trainers in consultative sales techniques and best practices.
  • Help manage trainer schedules and resources to maximize opportunities and results.
  • Lead and support the execution of the CrunchOne Kickoff process.
Enhance Client Retention & Experience
  • Ensure consistent delivery of the client journey, especially during the critical first 90 days.
  • Monitor training quality and ensure programs are based on sound fitness principles.
  • Oversee client progress tracking, assessments, goal reviews, and program updates.
  • Maintain accurate records and utilization of company systems and training tools.
Develop and Lead the Training Team
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and develop personal trainers.
  • Conduct regular coaching sessions and performance reviews.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and results-oriented team culture.
  • Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, and exceptional member service.
Monitor Performance & Business Metrics
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sales, retention, and service delivery.
  • Analyze performance trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicate results, action plans, and business insights to club leadership.
What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Current Personal Training Certification from one or more of the following:
    • ACSM
    • ACE
    • Cooper Institute
    • IFPA
    • NASM
    • NESTA
    • NFPT
    • NSCA
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Fitness, or a related field.
    • 1-2 years of personal training experience.
    • Previous leadership or management experience.
    • Experience in consultative sales or fitness membership sales.
    • Experience leading, coaching, or motivating teams.

Schedule Expectations

Typical schedule includes a combination of morning, evening, and weekend shifts to support member needs and business operations. Flexibility is required to ensure adequate trainer and client support during peak hours.
