Job description

Brief Description of Covenant Church and Community:

Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) is a medium-sized church with a little over 200 in attendance every week. Covenant has experienced steady growth for the past three years. We are located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains just a few miles outside Greenville (to our east) and Clemson (to our west). The Easley area is a growing community that offers good schools, various family interests, and roomy neighborhoods. Our church has a history of prioritizing family ministries, while integrating students into all of our church life. We have regular Bible studies, Life Studies in homes, children and youth ministries, men and women ministries, etc. Our people enjoy being together, eating together, and studying God’s Word together. Our church families and leaders are very supportive of our family ministries. Our students attend a variety of schools and are involved in many extra-curricular activities, including sports, music and the performing arts. Purpose:

Called by the session, the Assistant Pastor of Family Ministries will serve the session, the people of Covenant, and the senior pastor by shepherding Christ’s people in preaching, teaching, and pastoral leadership opportunities. This role will give particular attention to pastoring families and to developing the family ministries (early childhood, children, youth, and college and career) aligned with Covenant’s mission to know Christ and to love one another.

Responsibilities:
  1. Preaching/Worship Leadership: Preaching once every six weeks; assisting the pastor and elders in leading worship weekly.
  2. Teaching/Pastoral Care: Teaching an Adult Sunday Studies class; providing pastoral presence at an evening Life Study; nurturing the families of Covenant in the Gospel of Jesus; meeting with families on special occasions, including hospital visitations, baptismal preparations, counseling, etc.
  3. Family Ministry Administration: Overseeing the staff and volunteers of the family ministries, including the student ministries coordinator; conducting quarterly meetings with family ministry staff and volunteers; providing pastoral guidance to all family ministries; updating continually the methods of family ministry so as to continue reaching the new families of the Wren, Easley, and Powdersville community; forecasting the growth of certain ministries and recruiting accordingly.
  4. Personal and Professional Development: Developing his own knowledge and skills by reading, attending conferences, furthering education, and networking so as to be able to address the issues of the next generation.
Example Weekly Schedule:
  1. Monday: Staff meeting, administrative responsibilities and communications, meet with a mentor
  2. Tuesday: Breakfast with a dad, prepare Sunday night youth, attend student extra-curricular
  3. Wednesday-Thursday: Prepare Sunday school lesson, communicate with families about Sunday
  4. Saturday: Prepare for worship service, finalize teachings, attend session
