Job summary

The City of Lawrence is seeking an Assistant Director of Parks who will provide leadership for planning, operations, and maintenance of the City’s parks, facilities, and outdoor spaces. Under the supervision of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Director, you will coordinate projects with other departments and community partners, manage staff, and ensure safe, high‑quality amenities for Lawrence residents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree as stated in Qualifications.
• Six years of professional experience in parks and recreation administration with supervisory responsibility.
• Must possess an appropriate valid driver’s license and pass City background, physical, and drug screens.
• Ability to obtain CPRP Certification within one calendar year.

Responsibilities

• Planning, prioritizing, and supervising work of managerial, supervisory, and technical staff responsible for park and facility maintenance.
• Overseeing park planning, general construction and maintenance, forestry, cemeteries, horticulture, golf course maintenance, custodial services, and athletic facilities.
• Coordinate projects and services with other City departments, partner agencies, and community organizations.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation administration, public administration, business administration or closely related field
