Job summary

Hamilton County, Indiana seeks an Assistant Paralegal for the Board of Commissioners Legal Department to provide paraprofessional and administrative support, assist with operations, maintain department computer systems, and coordinate information.

The role includes researching laws, drafting summaries, reviewing contracts and pleadings, filing court documents, managing calendars, payroll, and supporting bond and real estate work as part of a busy county legal team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Possession of notary public within specified period, or renewal.
  • Thorough knowledge of criminal justice system policies, procedures and legal terminology, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County Departments, and the public, including ensuring professional ethics and respectful interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts legal research and prepares summaries, oral and written reports, and presentations of results and conclusions.
  • Drafts and files pleadings in court and assists with calendar coordination for hearings and deadlines.
  • Assists with payroll, invoices, and budgeting, including reviewing documents for accuracy and maintaining department records.
  • Maintains calendars, schedules meetings, and coordinates travel arrangements.
