Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Position Context

The Library and Information Science program at Appalachian StateUniversity prepares students to pursue careers in libraries orinformation fields. The Program has achieved Pre-CandidacyAccreditation status from the American Library Association (ALA): View Program retention and graduation data. TheMaster of Library and Information Science (MLIS) is a 36-credithour online degree program that prepares students to foster digitaland information literacies, assist underserved populations, andbridge the gap between people, information, and technology. Theprogram's curriculum has been developed and is reviewed annually toensure that it enables students to successfully meet the program'sLearning Objectives.

Core Position Responsibilities

• Teach graduate courses in Library and Information Science at the master's level, 18 credit hours, which corresponds to sixcourses during the academic year.
• Curriculum and course development, especially in areas ofinformation science.
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoingassessment of the MLIS programs.
• Advise and mentor graduate students.
• Engage in scholarly activity appropriate for tenure andpromotion, including research, publication, and/or grant activityrelated to Library and Information Science.
• Contribute to accreditation, assessment, and continuousimprovement efforts within the Library and Information ScienceProgram.
• Participate in service through committee work, professionalengagement, and community partnerships.
• Connect the program with emerging information professions.
• Collaborate with faculty across academic units oninterdisciplinary teaching, research, and grant initiatives.
• Engage in an active program of scholarship and professionalservice to the MLIS Program, the Department, the University, and/orthe public, including committee work as specified in theUniversity's Faculty Handbook.
