Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting

New Mexico Highlands University is accepting applications for a nine‑month, tenure‑track position in Accounting at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in August 2024. The Department of Business Administration is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and is part of a Hispanic Serving Institution that values diversity, engagement, and inclusion. The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, bring fresh scholarship, and collaborate with faculty across disciplines.

Duties and Responsibilities

The normal teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year, with first‑year faculty teaching 18 credit hours. The successful candidate should have experience teaching in face‑to‑face, online (synchronous and asynchronous), hybrid, and blended modalities. Engagement in recruitment, advisement, and retention of students, curriculum development, and service to the department, university, and community is expected. The candidate will develop relationships with accounting firms for internships or career placements, share faculty duties as needed, and balance teaching with scholarship and professional service.

Minimum Qualifications

• The candidate must possess a Ph.D. in accounting. ABD status candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.


• Experience with online teaching is required.


• The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in teaching a variety of accounting courses.


• Candidates at the Associate level must have the academic credentials as outlined in Article 23 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.


• Experience with culturally diverse populations.
