Overview

Delaware State University is seeking an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator for the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership Program (Higher Ed). The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in graduate teaching and advising, with a track record of producing culturally responsive leaders who address diverse student needs and maximize academic achievement. The role uses hybrid (online synchronous and asynchronous) curricular instruction in a cohort model aligned with an accelerated weekend format. The candidate must be able to teach higher education foundational areas including research methods (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods), leadership in higher education, contemporary issues in higher education, human capital and resource management, public policy and higher education, ethics and law in higher education, applied assessment in educational research, strategic financial management, technology in research, organizational dynamics, and risk management strategies. The candidate will also serve as dissertation chair for an assigned group of students. Active engagement in research, grant writing, and involvement in state, regional, national, and international organizations is expected.

As Program Coordinator, the successful candidate will assist the Director of Graduate Programs in developing and coordinating the daily functioning of the Education Graduate Programs. Responsibilities include providing logistical support to the Program Director (student consultation, registration, course selection, class schedules, and degree-completion timelines), collecting and analyzing course assessment data for reports, and maintaining analytical skills to support student success. The successful candidate is expected to teach both M.Ed. and Ed.D. graduate students within their fields of expertise.

Essential Functions
  1. Teach doctoral-level Higher Education courses within the Education Graduate Programs (including summer months for adjunct pay).
  2. Advise and mentor graduate students.
  3. Chair and serve on dissertation committees.
  4. Coordinate and administer qualifying and comprehensive exams for graduate students.
  5. Coordinate admission activities and orientations; maintain contact with students to assist with enrollment.
  6. Supervise students’ academic progression per the Plan of Study and program requirements/outcomes.
  7. Track and maintain an online system of important documents and progress changes in student records.
  8. Continue producing innovations and scholarly work, including publications and presentations; actively pursue external funding through grant writing.
  9. Work in a team-oriented environment to review and revise curriculum, support department initiatives/projects, and coordinate work related to the Carnegie Project for the Education Doctorate (CPED).
  10. Participate in University/College/Department/Graduate Office/State/Professional committees and community activities; provide leadership and fulfill duties as chair or officer as assigned.
  11. Maintain office hours to be available to students for advising and counseling on academic performance and progress.
  12. Be available to students identified as advisees for program-related matters.
  13. Participate in curriculum and assessment development; analyze data to study student growth and impact; collaborate with the Education Department Data Analyst and Program Review Committee Chair to address accreditation reviews and departmental data needs.
  14. Participate in syllabi development/revisions; continually update courses to keep them current.
  15. Demonstrate professional competence in leadership in higher education, equity, and contemporary practices to support administrator development in higher education.
  16. Complete work assigned by the Director to ensure student enrollment, retention, and success.
  17. Meet regularly with the Program Director to support course scheduling, cohort progress, data file maintenance, and outcomes reporting each semester.
  18. Be familiar with the mission of DSU as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The candidate must possess the following skills and abilities, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  1. Experience teaching doctoral or advanced graduate students and supervising research dissertations.
  2. Ability to contribute to online course development and delivery using an LMS.
  3. Willingness and ability to assume a leadership role as a program coordinator.
  4. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, conceptual, writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to manage data using Excel and to learn new technologies.
  6. Professional conduct and effective interaction with others while representing DSU.
  7. Remain current on policy and practice related to educational leadership and leadership preparation.
  8. Ability to plan, establish priorities, and manage multiple tasks within deadlines.
  9. Engage in ongoing training related to job functions.
Education and Experience
  1. Ed.D. or Ph.D. in higher education leadership or a related field.
  2. Knowledge of education leadership standards and accreditation/approval processes.
  3. Record of outstanding teaching and scholarship.
  4. Ability to teach education leadership courses in line with CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education.
  5. Experience in securing funding for research and initiatives is preferred.
  6. Experience using Canvas or another LMS and ability to develop and teach online courses.
  7. Minimum of 5 years of graduate-level teaching and coordinating experience with current best practices in educational leadership.
  8. Knowledge of current best practices in higher education leadership.
  9. Willingness to be present on campus for this in-person position.
  10. Willingness to serve as the program coordinator for the higher education program.

The evaluation criteria include, but are not limited to: a proven record of research advisement; the ability to instruct students aligned with higher education standards and best practices; and evidence of alignment of program assessments, curriculum, and instruction with higher education professional standards.
