Position Summary Information
Summary
Full-time tenure or non-tenure track appointment at either the assistant or associate professor rank (based on credentials and professional experience) in Pharmaceutical Sciences with special emphasis in at least one of the following: Drug Discovery, Pharmaceutical or Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Delivery and Pharmaceutics. Successful candidates for the tenure-track position will be expected to establish a funded, nationally recognized research program as well as teach primarily in several courses within the professional PharmD curriculum.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Teaching and Service: Participate in pharmacy and graduate student education based on areas of expertise, contributing to direct teaching needs. Evaluating the success of teaching contributions may be based on student achievement, student evaluations, course/module director evaluations, and peer evaluations. Active participation on college and university committees will be required and assigned. Evaluating the success of service obligations will be based on level of participation and engagement in support of related activities. In addition, membership and participation in state and national professional organizations is strongly encouraged.
Research: Participate in scholarly activities and/or research focus areas as appropriate. Seek extramural funding opportunities, write and submit proposals, conduct collaborative scholarly inquiries. Maintain extramural funding and productivity, generate a percentage of base salary through extramural support. Publish quality papers. Evaluating the success of this research obligation will be based on efforts toward publication and grant success.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent research-based earned doctorate and postdoctoral or previous experience with government or industry in an area related to Pharmaceutical Sciences with emphasis on Pharmaceutical or Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Discovery, Drug Delivery and Pharmaceutics.
Preferred Qualifications
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment.
Department Specific Information
Teaching Effort: 40-50% with the ability to increase the teaching effort for non-tenure track faculty position. Contribute to curriculum development and delivery in the subspecialty area of medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, pharmaceutics and drug delivery. Teaching duties may include preparation and presentation of teaching/learning experiences, class materials and examinations in assigned courses; and monitoring and maintaining records of student progress in assigned courses. Act as an advisor to graduate and mentor pharmacy students in both the classroom and laboratory.
Research Effort: 40-50% with the ability to reduce the research effort distribution for the non-tenure track faculty position. Preference will be given to research in broadly defined specialty areas that could include one of the following: pharmaceutical or medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, computational chemistry, molecular modeling, virtual screening, drug target interaction, drug development, pharmaceutics and drug delivery. Current research interests within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences include neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, glaucoma, traumatic brain injury, metabolic diseases and cancer as well as drug delivery and development.
Service Effort: 10% Participate in department, College and/or University service responsibilities. Maintains focus on service excellence in all relationships with colleagues, students and NEOMED guests; views all interactions as a potential opportunity for demonstrating NEOMED’s focus on serving others. Service contributions may also include participation in professional organizations.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Skills, Knowledge and Personal Characteristics: A commitment to academic excellence; advanced knowledge in one of the specialty areas, excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills; understanding of professional interdisciplinary education and health science-related issues.
