Alter Trading is hiring an Assistant Operations Manager for our auto shredder facility in Waterloo, IA. This hands-on leadership role supports daily operations, safety, quality, and production goals while developing our next generation of leaders.

Ideal candidates have 3-5 years supervisory experience in industrial or recycling settings, strong communication skills, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather. Relocation assistance is available.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of supervisory experience in industrial, recycling, or heavy equipment environments.
• Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Preferred experience in non-ferrous and ferrous metals, scrap, shredders, or operations/lead roles.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Support daily facility operations and assist the Facility Manager with compliance, safety, and production goals.
• Analyze operational data to resolve quality or production issues.
• Lead and develop training programs for operational staff.
• Oversee monthly operational budgets and help manage equipment/parts inventory.
• Serve as backup to Facility Manager when needed.
• Ensure product standards meet steel mill requirements and customer expectations.
• Engage with commercial and peddler customers to support business growth.
