POSITION SUMMARY
Assist the Kiln Operator to control the kiln process through standard operating procedures utilizing instrument readings, laboratory test results and physical observations to safely produce a quality product. Duties are usually performed during a 12-hour rotating shifts.Plant runs 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate computer-controlled systems for kiln operation with a full understanding of the process, equipment, and associated controls & instrumentation
- Perform product sampling and laboratory testing to maintain quality control
- Maintain shift records of operational, environmental, and safety data
- Primary goals of Assistant Kiln Operator:
- Strict adherence to all safety & environmental rules
- Proper operation & maintenance of equipment
- Stable process operation with consistent product quality
- Perform routine equipment inspection, lubrication, & minor maintenance
- Perform routine clean-up of assigned areas
- Assist maintenance personnel as required
- Tolerate intermittent exposure to temperature extremes, dust, noise, and vibration
- Position includes a lot of walking, climbing of stairs and ladders
- Work in adverse outdoor weather conditions
- Assist in loading trucks, rail cars, stone, & coal as required
QUALIFICATIONSQUALIFICATIONSQUALI QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma and 2 years of industrial experience
- The ability to communicate fluently to convey, exchange, and understand questions, ideas and instructions in both verbal and written form
- Possess good math skills including four basic arithmetic functions and common units of measurement
- Possess computer skills sufficient to work with JDE, Labware, Microsoft Excel, and the ability to learn and understand PLC’s (programmable logic controllers)
- Able to access and work in ALL areas of plant which include heights up to 125’ above ground level, and confined spaces
- Lifting, carrying, pushing or moving of 50 pounds minimum
- Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions, and respond accordingly
- Knowledge of lubrication and service requirements of machinery
- Ability to safely operate or learn to operate front-end loader, skid-steer loader, track mobile and forklift
- Ability to work as part of a team and work independently
- Ability to fill in for other shifts; potentially nights or weekends as necessary
- Ability and willingness to be cross-trained in other job functions
