Qualifications

• Five or more years of experience in distribution/production.
• At least three years in a management or supervisory role.
• Knowledge of industrial engineering and HR regulations and employee relations skills.
• Experience supervising other supervisors/leads.

Responsibilities

• Manage all plant distribution to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery.
• Maintain quality standards and optimize equipment performance and asset use.
• Monitor costs, labor, and provide cost-saving recommendations and improvements.
• Ensure orders meet specifications and quality standards; implement quality processes.
• Advise supervisors on labor, safety, scheduling and training; enforce policies.
• Manage budget and control expenses.
• Hire, train and appraise staff; coordinate with HR as needed.
• Keep current with information/tech to drive innovation and compliance.
• Provide site leadership and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Plan quarterly reviews and adjust objectives as conditions change.
• Direct operations teams toward targets and operational rhythms.
• Oversee budgets (operating and capital) within Operations.
• Communicate with Sales/other departments to ensure customer satisfaction.

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Operations Manager to join our send shift. The Assistant Operations Manager aids the Operations Manager in overseeing the safe receipt, storage, retrieval and timely delivery of materials, product and services to the Intsel Steel customers.

The Assistant Operations Manager supports the Operations Manager in overseeing the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the branch. This position provides leadership and direction to operations, production, warehouse, logistics, and support functions to ensure materials and products are received, processed, stored, and delivered in a timely manner while meeting company, customer, quality, and safety standards.

The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for supporting the achievement of operational, financial, and productivity objectives; maintaining compliance with company policies and applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations; developing and supporting employees and supervisors; and driving continuous improvement throughout the operation.

This position serves as a key member of the site leadership team and acts as a primary support to the Operations Manager in managing day-to-day operations and achieving overall branch objectives.

Responsibilities

• Manages all plant distribution efforts to ensure that product is delivered in a timely and cost effective manner.
• Ensures standards for product quality, equipment, and operator performance are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize capabilities. Ensures fixed assets are preserved. Initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to plant property.
• Develops, monitors, and reports on operating costs within functional areas. Alerts management of cost and labor over run. Makes recommendations and implements solutions to problems related to same.
• Ensures orders are fulfilled according to specifications and quality standards are met. Develops and ensures compliance with Quality processes that will meet or exceed customer standards.
• Advises supervisors on labor issues including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, etc. Ensures supervisors are adhering to company policy and administering practices in fair and equitable manner.
• Manages budget and controls expenses effectively.
• Hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consults with human resources as appropriate.
• Keeps up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
• Key member of the site leadership team. Provides consistent site leadership for operations.
• Develops department goals and leads continuous improvement initiatives.
• Act as a change agent in building efficiency into operations processes that will drive yearly productivity improvements.
• Determines cadence and operating rhythm for quarterly site operations reviews.
• Revises objectives and plans in accordance with current business conditions.
• Provides direction to the Operations Team to include setting and monitoring targets.
• Plans and manages the expense and capital budgets within the Operations function.
• Effectively communicate with sales and other departments within the branch to ensure proper customer satisfaction is met.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This position assists the Operations Manager in leading all operations of the Branch.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws to include OSHA, DOT, and other corporate safety programs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Minimum five (5) years of experience in distribution/production
• Minimum 3 (3) years of experience in management/supervisory position
• Knowledge of industrial engineering, human resources laws and regulations, and employee relations skills.
