Summary Statement

This class is responsible for the overall management of the Nursing Department. Positions at this level report to a Nurse Director.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core duties common to positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of every job duty. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete similar job duties not specifically listed here. Responsibilities include providing or evaluating direct nursing care, developing, implementing, and reviewing nursing care plans, providing health care instruction and guidance to individuals, families, community groups, and nursing home facilities, maintaining effective working relationships with the treatment team, and preparing reports and evaluations. Participants also engage in quality assurance activities and make recommendations for improvements.

Job Requirements

For Assistant Nursing Director: Applicants must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  • Possession of a Delaware Registered Nurse license or multi-state compact license.
  • At least three years' experience as a Registered Nurse in Long Term Care Nursing OR a Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing with at least two years' experience, OR a Master's degree or higher with at least one year of experience.
  • Knowledge of staff supervision, including planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work, or supervising staff including lead workers or subordinate supervisors.
  • Knowledge of developing policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of budget development, financial analysis, and planning.

Conditions of Hire
