Job summary

Shade Trees Nursery, Inc. is seeking a motivated Assistant Production Manager to oversee container and field growth operations as part of a hands-on leadership development path.

The role targets individuals eager to learn all facets of a large-scale nursery operation and advance into a leadership position within the family business. You will gain experience in planting, pruning, fertilizing, pest management, irrigation, scheduling, inventory, and production forecasting while working outdoors

Qualifications

• Experience in horticulture, nursery production, or related field preferred.
• Hands-on, dependable, and able to work outdoors in all seasons.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Bilingual English and Spanish preferred; willing to develop Spanish-language communication as needed.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing and assisting with scheduling and daily production activities.
• Planting, pruning, fertilizing, pest management, and irrigation of container-grown trees and shrubs.
• Field production and crop management.
• Monitoring plant health and overall crop quality.
• Overseeing equipment maintenance and coordinating repairs as needed.
• Assisting with production forecasting and planning.
• Maintaining accurate inventory and availability counts for the sales department.
• Attending industry trade shows, educational seminars, and training programs.
• Taking on increasing responsibility as knowledge and experience develop.

• Previous experience in horticulture, nursery production, landscaping, agriculture, or a related field preferred
• Strong interest in plants, horticulture, and nursery operations
• Hands‑on, dependable, and willing to work outdoors in all seasons
• Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to work independently while also being part of a team
• Strong communication skills
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a preferred.
• Candidates who are not currently proficient in Spanish must be willing and able to independently develop Spanish-language communication skills necessary to effectively communicate with members of the production team
• Valid driver’s license required
