Job Summary:
Supervises the implementation, delivery, and evaluation/improvement of quality patient care/nursing operations for one large unit or multiple smaller units within a 24-hour department. Ensures services are aligned with nursing standards, service priorities, performance/outcomes measures, and organizational goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Supervises nursing services and patient care within one or more units, ensuring compliance with cost, quality, clinical, and utilization standards.
- Ensures unit services meet the needs of members, physicians, and internal clients in a competitive healthcare environment.
- Supervises a single unit (8 to 24 hours) with approximately 20 or more employees or multiple smaller units.
- Ensures patient care and quality standards meet regulatory requirements and departmental policies.
- Implements systems and processes for continuous improvement of clinical practices, services, and operations.
- Oversees daily activities of the units, monitoring quality, service, and utilization standards.
- Manages clinical operations, including staffing, budgets, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Develops action plans to enhance staff development and patient care delivery.
- Monitors service quality and utilization, ensuring patient care at the unit level.
- Coordinates treatment plans, patient-focused care, and cost-effective service utilization.
- Allocates and utilizes personnel effectively based on patient needs, identifying savings opportunities.
- Collaborates with external healthcare providers to optimize patient care across the continuum.
- Researches and implements best practice models.
- Addresses and resolves patient and family concerns regarding care.
- Supervises daily unit operations, including HR management, safety programs, and risk management.
