Cleveland Clinic Akron General is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager for the Postpartum Unit. You will support the nurse manager with clinical supervision, unit coordination, and staff development during a 7:00 p.m.–5:30 a.m.

shift with weekend on-call and annual holiday on-call requirements. The ideal candidate will have a BSN, Ohio RN license, BLS and ACLS, NRP within six months, and at least two years of OB-level nursing experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • RN license in Ohio.
  • BLS through AHA or Red Cross.
  • ACLS certification through AHA or Red Cross on hire or within 1 year.
  • NRP completion within six months of hire.
  • Two years of recent clinical nurse experience in mother/baby or OB.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and communication/organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Akron General’s Postpartum Unit provides compassionate, safe care to every mother and baby. Our specially trained nursing staff helps welcome more than 3,000 new babies into the world every year. We believe that by continually assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care based on evidence-based practice, sound clinical judgment and critical thinking skills, our caregivers provide safe, quality, expert and compassionate care. In addition to our highly qualified nurses, maternal-fetal medicine specialists and anesthesiologists are also available 24/7 in our unit.

As Assistant Nurse Manager, you will support the nurse manager by providing clinical supervision and unit coordination. This position offers a great way to gain extensive leadership experience while continuing to provide the best support and treatment possible.

A caregiver in this position works from 7:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m. + on-call every 6th – 7th weekend rotation, and 1 holiday on-call per year requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Interview, hire and train staff; provide input into performance evaluations and provide feedback.
  • Make personnel action recommendations (e.g., promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge).
  • Provide direction and support to the unit staff and supervise admissions, conducts assessment of patient's needs, and initiates nursing care plans.
  • Evaluate and document patient progress.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiative, and objective for the unit.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit. Serves as a liaison between the manager, staff, and other areas within the organization.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
  • Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage.
  • Participate in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives.
  • Participate in departments and committees as assigned.
  • Assist with providing continuing education and in-service educational programs for caregivers.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • RN license in Ohio
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of employment
  • Completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics within six months of hire into new life center
  • Two years of recent clinical nurse experience in mother/baby or OB setting
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills; good oral, written, and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and organization skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Leadership/supervisory experience

Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment: Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range Minimum Annual Salary: $76,540.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $116,747.50
