Qualifications

  • ADN required.
  • BSN within three years for certain hires.
  • Active Florida RN license.
  • BLS certification.
  • ACLS/PALS/NRP/STABLE may be required based on department.

Overview

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) serves as a key operational and clinical leader, supporting the Nurse Manager and Nursing Director in the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. The ANM provides day-to-day leadership, staff supervision, clinical expertise, and operational oversight to ensure excellence in patient outcomes, employee engagement, regulatory compliance, and departmental performance.

This role assists with recruitment, retention, performance management, employee development, budgeting, quality improvement initiatives, and the promotion of a collaborative work environment. The Assistant Nurse Manager serves as a role model for professional nursing practice and supports organizational goals through effective leadership and clinical decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide operational and clinical leadership for assigned nursing unit(s).
  • Supervise and support nursing staff to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, retention, and performance management activities.
  • Participate in employee evaluations, coaching, corrective action, and professional development planning.
  • Support staffing and scheduling processes to ensure appropriate patient care coverage.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote quality outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards, including Joint Commission requirements.
  • Assist in developing, monitoring, and managing departmental budgets and resource utilization.
  • Lead and support quality improvement, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate a culture of accountability, teamwork, service excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff.
Qualifications
Education
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • BSN required within three (3) years of hire or transfer for employees hired into the role on or after June 14, 2017.
  • Employees hired or transferred prior to June 14, 2017 will follow requirements outlined in their offer letter and applicable organizational policies.
Preferred Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field.
Experience
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of recent acute care nursing experience.
  • Previous leadership, charge nurse, preceptor, or supervisory experience preferred.
Required Licensure & Certifications
  • Active Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.

Additional certifications may be required based on assigned department and may include:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • STABLE Program Certification
  • AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring (Intermediate or Advanced)

Certifications must be obtained within organizationally established timeframes and maintained throughout employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of nursing practice standards, patient safety principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of Joint Commission standards and healthcare accreditation requirements.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in acute care nursing.
  • Effective leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent customer service and patient experience focus.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and standard computer applications.
