Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality, patient safety, and innovation, is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager to join our dynamic Oncology Unit (Springfield 3) at Baystate Medical Center (BMC)— a Magnet-designated hospital for Nursing Excellence located in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Role Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice and Quality Outcomes: The Assistant Nurse Manager administers direct nursing care to patients and serves as a clinical resource and role model of clinical excellence for staff. Delivers service promise as evidenced by metrics in all unit practices and programs. Provides leadership collaboratively with the Nurse Manager in proactively developing quality-driven and cost-effective initiatives. Initiates and partners with the Nurse Manager to lead and achieve outcomes in service-based performance improvement efforts.
  • Human Resource Leadership: Leads a positive work environment that facilitates the delivery of excellent patient and caregiver experiences, with staff highly engaged and metrics reflecting Core principles of Magnet. Initiates and manages necessary change, provides support and resources to staff, seeks opportunities to build alliances with other professional groups, and creates opportunities for Shared Governance. Responsible for recruiting & hiring, staff development, recognition, retention, establishing performance expectations, delivering performance appraisals, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Management of the Patient Care Environment: Highly visible leader in the patient care unit, responsible for effective management of patient progress and outcomes. Leads collaborative efforts with other departments and disciplines to meet patient care needs, and is accountable for unit issues in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
  • Financial Growth and Stewardship: Accountable for managing within budget in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, stewarding financial resources, and promoting growth through business plans and budgets aligned with organizational goals.
  • Operational Planning: Sets a progressive pace for performance improvement, creates and implements plans that positively impact patient care delivery and work environment, makes operational decisions to facilitate appropriate patient flow, and establishes staffing plans responsive to changing needs.
  • Staff Education/Training: Establishes a learning environment in partnership with a nurse educator and manager.
  • Facilitates staffing models necessary to support case volumes and acuity.
  • Evaluates clinical processes and workflows for efficiency and facilitates appropriate change.
  • Responsible for direct nurse supervision on weekends and off shifts in partnership with the clinical supervisor.
  • Evaluates clinical documentation to ensure completion and accuracy.
Qualifications
  • Successfully passed Board of Registration in Nursing Examination and is licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification required.
  • Education: ADN required; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience with the most appropriate patient population served by the care team.
  • Basic Life Support – American Heart Association.
  • Registered Nurse – State of Massachusetts.
Compensation

We offer competitive total compensation that includes pay, benefits, and other recognition programs for our employees. The base pay range shown above considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including knowledge/skills; relevant experience and training; education/certifications/licensure; and other business and organizational factors. This base pay range does not include our comprehensive benefits package and any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role.

$118,934.00 – $136,718.00 – $161,720.00
