The CTICU is an 8-bed intensive care unit specializing in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular interventions, and vascular surgery. We are a growing program, seeing new procedures and admitting upwards of 250+ open heart surgery patients annually. Devices commonly used in this unit include IABP, Impella, EKOs, transvenous pacemakers, and swan-ganz catheters. The unit is supported by Dr. El-Khatib, our primary cardiothoracic surgeon, along with 24/7 intensivists and a team of interventional cardiologists. Our care approach is patient-centered and nurse-driven, emphasizing a multidisciplinary team for quality patient care with daily nurse-led rounds. Our CTICU has received the Bronze Beacon Award twice. Management supports lifelong education and hands-on learning, fostering professional development through shared governance and active unit presence.

Forbes Hospital is a 315-bed, Level II trauma center located in Monroeville. It offers a range of services including trauma, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, interventional cardiology, obstetrics, and psychiatry, fostering strong community relationships.
