Position Summary
The Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager in the directing, planning, evaluating, and coordinating of Member care on a nursing unit.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assists in the completion of MDS and care plan development.
  2. Assists in the review process to maintain accurate care cards.
  3. Understanding of and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  4. Provides supervisory oversight on the nursing unit to ensure quality of care through: regular daily rounds; audit completion; care card review; monitoring compliance with turning and positioning; coaching and teaching of staff on unit as issues occur; providing family members with Member information; and meal monitoring.
  5. May be responsible for providing in-servicing for unit nursing staff.
  6. Provides on unit teaching to nursing staff as needed.
  7. Assists with unit medical rounds.
  8. Assists with auditing of quality of care and compliance with systems on a specific nursing unit.
  9. Ensures that all Members are receiving the necessary care and services to enhance and promote quality of life.
  10. Documents all required Member care information accurately and timely in Health MedX.
  11. Notifies Member families with changes to Members plan of care.
  12. Assists Nurse Manager with counseling and coaching.
  13. Provides input to the Nurse Manager for staff performance evaluations.
  14. Oversees staff compliance with mandatory in-services and schedules staff for programs to ensure attendance.
  15. May participate in the weekly interdisciplinary care plan meeting.
  16. Responsible for unit management in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
  17. May be responsible for providing unit coverage on weekends or evenings and nights as necessary.
  18. Supports Departmental philosophy, goals, policies and procedures.
  19. Assists with completion of Member documentation and monitoring for accuracy and timeliness.
  20. Complies with HIPPA regulations.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
  22. Ensures that daily team conference is held on assigned nursing neighborhood.
  23. Responsible for Member/Patient weight monitoring and documentation.
  24. Daily accountability to ensure CNA documentation is complete.

Other Job Functions:

Expectations of the Position:

  1. Dependable, report to work on-time for every scheduled shift (ready to work at beginning of shift) and work full schedule shifts unless physically unable or pre-approved Paid Time Off (PTO) which includes personal and vacation.
  2. Willing and able to work overtime and weekends as required by the position and/or approved by management.
  3. Have reliable transportation to and from work.
  4. Must be clean and neat in appearance and have a “friendly” service-oriented personality.
  5. Abide by work-related/job procedures and organization policies; (refer to the Employee Handbook).

Qualifications of the Position:

  1. Education: Graduation from an approved school of nursing. Additional courses in management and geriatric nursing desirable, BSN preferred.
  2. Experience: At least five years of progressive nursing experience.
  3. MDS experience and supervisory experience preferred.
  4. Skills: Ability to meet the public and participate in professional programs.
  5. Licenses/Certifications: Current NYS Registration and License.

  2. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by Friendly Home.
  3. May be requested to assist in the evacuation of Members or perform other procedures to protect the safety of Members, visitors, and team members during emergency situations.
