WROC/RochesterFirst, part of Nexstar Media Group, Inc., is seeking an Assistant News Director in Rochester, NY. This role supports the News Director and oversees multi-platform news, weather, and sports programming with a focus on strategy, staffing, and staff development.

The candidate will lead editorial decisions, mentor staff, and help drive ratings and digital growth across RochesterFirst platforms, including RochesterFirst.com and streaming apps.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or equivalent experience.
Fluency in English and strong written/oral communication.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in news programming production; leadership preferred.
Ability to coach and mentor staff and manage deadlines.

Responsibilities

Assist News Director with multi-platform news, weather, and sports production.
Assist with management of News and Production Departments.
Plan staffing, training, and performance evaluations for News/Production.
Advise on hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination decisions.
Develop content coverage strategy for RochesterFirst platforms.
Lead editorial decisions for multi-platform content operations.
Mentor staff and ensure deadlines are met.
Contribute to achieving TV ratings and digital/streaming growth.
