Position Summary
This is a part-time 12 month position and is responsible for assisting with coaching, managing and directing various aspects of the Gannon University Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Team. The Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Team competes at the NCAA Division II level and is a member of the PSAC . Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
1. Assist with developing and maintaining all aspects of a successful NCAA Division II cross country team for the Athletic Department at Gannon University.
2. Assist with providing direction, coordination, and instruction to Gannon’s cross country team during the spring track season.
3. Assist with recruiting prospective student-athletes, including international recruiting.
4. Ensures compliance with all applicable University, NCAA , and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference ( PSAC ) rules, regulations, and policies.
5. Counsel team members in academics, team expectations, and personal matters. Consult with head coach and appropriate personnel for support and resolution of issues as required.
6. Represent the Gannon University Athletic Department in professional, civic, charity, and alumni events.
7. Assist with formulating and conducting camps and/or clinics.
8. Assist with scheduling all practices and practice facilities with the administration for approval.
9. Assist in preparing advanced scheduling, with budget approval, for all transportation, hotel, and meal requirements for away contests.
10. Assists with scheduling and coordinating all aspects of one home cross country meet a year.
11. Assist with submiting expense reports for all home and away contests.
12. Assist with issuing, maintaining, and collecting all team uniforms and equipment.
13. Assist with training, strengthening and developing all student-athletes; in compliance with all NCAA Division II and PSAC rules and regulations.
14. Assist in active collaboration with University Advancement Office and Athletic Department in developing and implementing fundraising and alumni engagement initiatives.
15. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope, responsibility, and requirements of the position.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor’s degree is required.
Experience: Previous competitive coaching experience is required; preferably at the collegiate level.
Skills: Knowledge of NCAA and PSAC rules and proven success in recruiting and promoting student-athletes in their academic and athletic experience. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated organizational and time management skills; technical knowledge of skills and strategy combined with the ability to effectively teach and coach them; ability to motivate and effectively communicate with student-athletes; willingness and ability to actively recruit qualified prospective student-athletes to the University; strong administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and ability to work independently.
Licenses or Certifications: A valid driver’s license in good standing. Per Gannon’s Institutional Policy Manual there can be no suspensions on the Motor Vehicle Record for 5 years prior to being hired.

Preferred Qualifications
College-level coaching experience is preferred.
Strength and conditioning certification is preferred.
Physical Demands
Able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy office and University environment.
When coaching, work is performed in a busy office and athletic environment (indoor & outdoor).
