Job summary

Aurora University in Aurora, IL seeks an Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach to support student development and the day-to-day operations of the athletics department. You will assist in coaching, recruiting, retention, and student-athlete academics while upholding NCAA Division III standards.

The role requires planning practices, supervising staff, and participating in department meetings, with evening/weekend hours and travel as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Coaches the position segments as directed by the head coach and plans practices.
  • Ensures compliance with NCAA and conference rules, and reports violations.
  • Recruits qualified student-athletes and coordinates campus visits.
  • Monitors and supports academic progress and student-athlete development.
  • Maintains professionalism and sportsmanship during competitions and events.
  • Attends athletic department and university meetings and participates in required duties.

Job description

Position Purpose:

The Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach supports learning by overseeingthe student development efforts for the university’s athleticdepartment and assists in the day-to-day operations of thedepartment’s athletic events.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Supports the head coach by carrying out assignedresponsibilities in student-development, recruiting, andretention.
  • Understands and follows NCAA and conference rules andregulations. Follows NCAA rules as outlined in Bylaw 13 in the NCAADivision III Manual. Reports any alleged violations of NCAA,conference, or institutional rules and regulations.
  • Student-Development/Coaching/Teaching
    • Coaches the position(s) or segments necessary as directed by the head coach.
    • Keeps informed of contemporary trends, tactics, techniques andstrategies in coaching, which includes developing a philosophy ofwhat to teach and how to implement.
    • Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation ofpractices as necessary.
    • Instructs student-athletes on high expectations for academicachievement; monitors the academic progress ofstudent-athletes.
    • Instructs student-athletes on a standard of proper safety.
  • Recruits individual student-athletes or territories as directedby the head coach. Assists student-athletes and their parents inunderstanding the educational programs and opportunities at AuroraUniversity as well as the opportunities in the athletic program.Answers questions to aid in the understanding of NCAA Division IIIrules related to recruitment.
    • Assist the head coach to actively recruit qualifiedstudent-athletes that meet the academic standards and profile ofAurora University.
    • Identify potential student-athletes through off campusrecruitment and coordination of on campus visits in a main focus ofthis position.
  • Retention and development of current student-athletes is a highpriority through biweekly academic meetings with students andproviding individual/group lacrosse coaching.
  • Maintains self-control and poise; provides an example ofsportsmanlike conduct for team members, officials, opponents andspectators.
  • Attends athletic department meetings and university communitymeetings and functions.
  • Handles confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Drives university or rental vehicles as needed for awaycontests.
  • Performs special and/or additional duties as required by the VPfor Athletics.
Essential Job Requirements:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. Master’sdegree preferred.
Experience:

  • General computer knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of athletics.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to interact verbally in person, over telephone and viawritten and electronic media.
  • Ability to move about campus and other locations.
  • Evening and weekend availability is required.
  • Flexibility with an evolving work environment important.
Work Hours:

Expected equivalent of 40 hours per week, butdays/hours may vary as needed. Hybrid or work from home employmentwill be considered if candidate can demonstrate ability to fulfillthis role effectively off-site.

Special Requirements:
  • A valid driver's license and driving record which meetsinstitutional requirements is required.
  • Requires travel between campus locations or to attend off-sitemeetings.
