Job Description

Facility Engineering Services is seeking a Mechanical Utility Engineer to collaborate on project teams, creating designs for new projects, facility modifications, and Capital Equipment installations within a government manufacturing facility.

This role involves working throughout the design and construction phases, adapting mechanical plans based on budget, design factors, or client needs. Post-construction, the engineer will assist with commissioning, maintenance planning, operational guidance, condition assessments, and recapitalization planning for utility infrastructure systems, including HVAC, exhaust, hydronic systems, compressed air, and process gases.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and operate facility utility infrastructure systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical design and operational issues in existing or upcoming facilities and equipment.
  • Conduct condition assessments and develop recapitalization strategies.
  • Assist in mechanical design from conceptualization to completion.
  • Review production drawings for various projects, including government manufacturing facilities.
  • Design mechanical components tailored to project requirements.
  • Apply mechanical engineering principles, codes, and practices effectively.
  • Research and compile project data for management and client presentations.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, and calculations as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program (or Engineering Technology with FE exam completion).
  • Prior internship or consulting experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Energy security clearance.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering techniques and standards.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC/hydraulic analysis tools.
  • Leadership qualities, attention to detail, and teamwork skills.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

This position is full-time, based in Kansas City, MO, with no travel required. The posting remains open until filled.
