Food City in Dayton, TN is seeking a part-time Meat Department intern to support customer service excellence and department operations. You will assist in scheduling, inventory, pricing, and merchandise, while ensuring food safety and regulatory compliance.

The role emphasizes teamwork, a positive attitude, and hands-on learning in a fast-paced retail meat department environment. On-site shifts with flexible hours are required.

• Provide exceptional customer service to support the company mission.
• Set the standard for customer service, associate relations and cleanliness.

• Interact professionally with management, associates and customers.
• Supervise the cutting room and assist the meat manager with safety programs.
• Assist in scheduling and inventory planning for the department.
• Maintain proper pricing and merchandise meat department products.
• Handle weekly cutting tests and profit projections.
• Take meat inventory and complete departmental paperwork.
• Keep workstation clean and ensure sanitation schedules are followed.
• Assist in stocking and rotation of processed meat products.
• Take telephone orders and wrap/weight meat products.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations relevant to the Meat department.
• Assist in training new associates and maintain a safe department.

Job description

Essential Job Functions:

• Always provide and promote exceptional customer service in support of the company mission to “Run the Best Store in Town!”


• Lead by example and set the standard for customer service, associate relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability


• Maintain a positive attitude; create an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.


• Generate a positive, friendly, and fun working environment with a customer first initiative by encouraging associates to greet and speak to customers, provide prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service.


• Interact professionally with management team, associates, supervision, and customers


• Supervise the cutting room and assist the meat manager in enforcing and maintaining the company food safety program


• Assist in making schedules


• Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory level according to the department’s daily needs


• Maintain proper pricing


• Merchandise all meat department products


• Assist in weekly cutting test and profit projections


• Assist in taking meat inventory


• Assist in all departmental paperwork


• Keep workstation and area around workstation neat and clean


• Assist in stocking and rotation of processed meat products


• Take telephone orders from customers


• Wrapping and weighing meat products


• Assist in maintaining all policies and procedures including all local, state, and federal regulations as it pertains to the Meat department


• Assist in training new associates


• Maintain a clean and safe department according to company standards utilizing Sanitation schedules and daily to-do lists


• Other duties may be assigned as needed

Qualifications:

• Must be knowledgeable in various training methods


• Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and repetitive tasks, and have constant contact/interaction with various levels of individuals on a daily basis


• Flexibility in work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays


• Must have excellent problem-solving skills


• Must be able to lead by example to give Food City Customers their best shopping experience


• Knowledge of Food City policies and procedures


• Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies
