Assistant Materials Manager

Duncan, SC

The Assistant Materials Manager manages the material, transportation, and inventory needs of the plant. They are responsible for meeting monthly goals, analyzing performance metrics, and administering the department efficiently and cost-effectively.

The Role:
  1. Establish database parameters for Material Requirement Planning (MRP) and related software systems.
  2. Maintain business practices, procedures, and documentation for control of supplier releases, shipments, inventory, and storage.
  3. Manage schedule variations and recover costs as needed.
  4. Monitor accuracy and integrity of all materials-related record keeping.
  5. Monitor supplier performance for quality and delivery standards.
  6. Manage Bill of Material database and monitor performance of updates and new items.
  7. Minimize inventory levels and handle obsolescence claims.
  8. Maintain customer relations and supplier delivery performance.
  9. Review subordinate job performance for training and development.
  10. Document and manage supplier delivery performance.
  11. Manage daily planning reports.
  12. Ensure conformance to IATF requirements.
  13. Ensure safe operation of material handling equipment and maintain safety standards.
  14. Manage licensing, testing, and safety standards for equipment operators.
  15. Maintain storage and racking safety standards.
  16. Properly maintain and evaluate material handling and dock equipment.
  17. Document safety and property occurrences and corrective actions.
  18. Supervise Material Floor Supervisors and handlers.
  19. Maintain control of receiving and shipping procedures and documentation.
  20. Establish goals and action plans for cost reduction and process improvements.
  21. Measure production downtime caused by material handling.
  22. Manage truckload utilization and freight cost savings.
  23. Participate in safety and environmental investigations and audits.
  24. Follow and promote environmental and safety standards and procedures.
  25. Ensure compliance with customs and inventory requirements.
  26. Participate in plant inventories and support departmental projects.
  27. Maintain knowledge of customer-specific requirements and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience in Materials Management.
  • SAP experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
