Supervises and coordinates the activities of employees. Ensures that customer’s needs are met.

Reporting Relations

Accountable and Reports to: District Store Director; Store Manager

Positions that Report to you: All positions except those listed above or designated by the Store Manager

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Maintains a positive attitude; creates an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.
  • Generates a friendly atmosphere by encouraging employees to greet and speak to customers; providing prompt, courteous, and efficient service to customers and sets a good example.
  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by: (examples include) escorting them to the products they’re looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
  • Responsible for perpetuating the fundamental values of the Hy-Vee culture, including honesty, integrity, friendliness, and caring for customers and employees.
  • Oversees proper training, handles employee issues, and coordinates disciplinary procedures when necessary.
  • Determines location of ad and promotional displays, ensures product quality and quantities meet customer and store demands and profitability.
  • Ensures the store standards for customer service, employee relations, and departmental profitability are met.
  • Ensures compliance with store accounting procedures and reports potential problems.
  • Oversees building/ground maintenance and store sanitation to meet company guidelines.
  • Uses and understands all hardware and software technology in the store.
  • Assists in forecasting and reviewing the store labor schedule with store director’s guidelines.
  • Evaluates employee performance for personnel decisions.
  • Trains and enforces safety procedures, maintains a safe work environment, and handles related documentation.
  • Directs merchandise ordering in their respective areas.
  • Coordinates compliance with policies, security, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Assists with replenishing shelves, designing displays, and problem-solving with employees.
  • Adheres to company policies and works scheduled hours.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Determines motivational needs and provides an appropriate environment.
  • Recruits, interviews, and participates in onboarding new employees.
  • Stays current with market trends and provides ongoing education to staff.
  • Recommends merchandise additions, deletions, and shelf allocations.
  • Engages in continuous education and cross-training.
  • Works with department heads on schedules, labor, purchasing, and merchandising.
  • Sells merchandise and handles cash registers as needed.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Effective interviewing, guiding, and manual reading skills.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of retail experience, including Assistant Manager duties.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Instructing, assigning, reviewing, and planning work of others.
  • Assisting with hiring, employee issues, and authority over personnel decisions.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
  • Visual and physical activities including climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking.
Working Conditions

Exposed to dust, noise, temperature extremes, and equipment hazards in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Pallet jack, cash registers, knives, forklift, computer, and other store equipment.

Financial Responsibility

Authorized to purchase merchandise and supplies, and order repairs.

Contacts

Daily contact with customers, employees, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

Confidentiality

Access to sensitive information like pricing, sales, and wages.
