Job summary

Sun Auto Tire & Service in Corte Madera is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to help run daily store operations, lead the customer experience, and coach teammates. You'"ll work with the Store Manager to keep the shop moving, communicate clearly with customers, and support safe, profitable store performance.

The ideal candidate has automotive service or retail leadership experience, strong communication, and a customer-first approach.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Records check.
• Strong communication and a customer-first approach.
• Comfort using POS systems, basic computer tools, and basic math for estimates and transactions.
• Ability to lead by example and work a schedule including openings/closings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily store operations as manager on duty (opening/closing, cash handling, facility checks, end-of-day documentation).
• Partner with Store Manager on scheduling, teammate assignments, shop workflow, KPI execution, and coaching to store standards.
• Lead a positive customer experience by greeting customers, documenting concerns, reviewing service history, and updating customers during visits.
• Present auto repair, tire, and maintenance recommendations based on inspections and customer needs.
• Help manage parts and tire inventory (receiving, invoicing, returns, warranty tracking, POS accuracy).
• Follow safety procedures, documentation standards, and company policies while delivering high-quality work.

What You’ll Do

• Support daily store operations as manager on duty, including opening and closing, cash handling, facility checks, and end-of-day documentation.
• Partner with the Store Manager on scheduling, teammate assignments, shop workflow, KPI execution, and coaching to store standards.
• Lead a positive customer experience by greeting customers, documenting concerns, reviewing service history, and keeping customers updated throughout the visit.
• Present auto repair, tire, and maintenance recommendations clearly and transparently based on inspections, customer needs, and manufacturer guidelines.
• Help manage parts and tire inventory, including receiving, invoicing, returns, warranty tracking, and POS accuracy.
• Follow safety procedures, escalation practices, documentation standards, and company policies while helping the team deliver high-quality work.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

You don't need to know everything on day one — we'll provide training. The right candidate brings customer focus, accountability, communication skills, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced automotive service environment.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Comfort using POS systems, basic computer tools, and basic math for estimates, invoices, and transactions.
• Ability to lead by example and work a schedule that meets business needs, including opening/closing shifts, weekends, and occasional holidays.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred:

• Previous Service Advisor, Assistant Manager, retail automotive sales, or store operations experience.
• State Inspector License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, if required by location.
• ASE Certified Service Consultant certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, if required or available.

As an Assistant Store Manager, you'll build hands-on experience in customer experience, store operations, team coaching, KPI execution, and manager-on-duty leadership - with paid training and support to keep moving up. Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Automotive shop environment with exposure to moderate to loud noise, dust, exhaust fumes, lubricants, petroleum products, vapors, and caustic materials.
• Temperature variations may include extreme heat and/or extreme cold.
• Ability to stand up to eight hours per day and walk to access various areas of the building.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch regularly, with full range of motion in arms and hands.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 70 pounds frequently.
• Vision sufficient to detect color, depth, and refocus; use of safety goggles or other PPE as required.
• Ability to communicate with customers, service advisors, managers, and shop teammates.
