The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties specific to that role, though most responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude, consistently providing legendary service
  • Answer questions regarding the store and merchandise confidently
  • Help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs and desires
  • Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing this with the Team
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices
  • Achieve personal sales goals and contribute to store sales performance
  • Provide legendary service across all store areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register
  • Understand exchange and return procedures and turn them into showmanship opportunities
  • Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to meet goals
  • Meet or exceed standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty initiatives
  • Expand Guest selection through inventory management and product search tools
  • Build and maintain good Guest relationships to develop a client-based business
  • Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness
  • Recognize and communicate Guest levels with the Team
  • Ask business-driven questions to Managers, Team Leaders, and Teammates
  • Be coachable; seek feedback to improve sales presentations
  • Perform leadership actions and uphold high standards, whether or not the Manager is present
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to plan sales goals
  • Demonstrate ownership of store’s sales performance and product education
Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development
  • Recognize recruiting opportunities using various referral methods
  • Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred programs
  • Lead and motivate new Teammates to meet Buckle standards
  • Maintain a positive attitude to foster a positive floor culture
  • Demonstrate personal dress code and fashion trends
  • Participate in daily setup, training, and reviews using the Performance Tracker
  • Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks
  • Show passion for denim showmanship and fit cards
  • Create results in your department and balance all actions within your segment
  • Execute department calendar actions and track progress
  • Engage Guests with product demonstrations
  • Update fellow leaders and Team regularly
  • Remember and use Guest names effectively
  • Understand and display merchandise for both Gals and Guys’ sides
  • Partner with Store Manager on education focus and delegate accordingly
  • Support all segments to meet business goals
  • Assist in recruiting store staff and explain pay and benefits
  • Maintain contact lists and recruit top talent
  • Train on the Leadership playbook and other tools
  • Ensure all characteristic pieces are up to standard
  • Train and coach on non-sales positions
  • Identify and address Teammate training needs
  • Own zone ownership and recognize opportunities for visual merchandising and product lifecycle management
  • Review and execute zone standards and visual guidelines
  • Recognize merchandising opportunities and communicate solutions
  • Conduct store tours and ensure freight and displays are well-maintained
  • Implement visual standards and improve store performance through the Performance Tracker
Operations
  • Work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Use planners and complete opening/closing checklists
  • Recognize security risks and prevent thefts
  • Follow Loss Prevention protocols
  • Handle POS procedures and corporate calls professionally
  • Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations
  • Adhere to policies on payments, returns, and exchanges
  • Navigate store tools effectively
  • Communicate with non-sales staff and complete scheduled shifts
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store environment
  • Report merchandise concerns and policy violations promptly
  • Complete all HR and store operational tasks, including paperwork and safety procedures
Supervisory and Leadership
  • Provide and receive feedback professionally

Physical Demands
